InFRE Announces TWO IMPORTANT
Certification Policy Changes
InFRE continually reviews its curriculums and its policies, and
makes changes as a result of input from designees and staff. InFRE is
at this time instituting two changes to its policies for the Certified
Retirement Counselor (CRC) and Certified Retirement Administrator (CRA)
certifications, effective immediately:
- Degree Requirement Removed
: A college
degree is no longer required to earn the CRC and CRA designations.
Those designees who received their certification through the
special grandfathering opportunity will have automatically met the
education requirement either through earning a degree or by having
the necessary added years of employment.
It is felt that those students who are able to master the
material, have the minimum required years of relevant employment and
exhibit successful completion of all the examinations, have earned
the right to immediately enjoy the benefits of designee status,
regardless of their level of university achievement.
- Ethics Continuing Education
: CRC
and CRA designees are required to fulfill 2 hours of continuing
education in Ethics every 2 years. Previously, this has been the
only continuing education requirement that must be met with an InFRE-produced
course.
A designee’s first two-year ethics requirement must be met with
an InFRE-produced Ethics course (self study or workshop attendance)
that specifically addresses the InFRE Code of Ethics.
Subsequently, Ethics CEU’s may continue to be fulfilled by
taking an ethics course produced by InFRE - OR - by taking a
course designed
(a) to meet the ethics mandate of another appropriate association
or designation (example: CFP, CLU, etc.), or
(b) to meet state or federal licensing requirements for
securities or insurance.
If you are uncertain as to whether another course will qualify,
please contact InFRE headquarters.
The Policy Board still considers it important to take one course
that directly addresses InFRE’s Code of Ethics, hence the
requirement to take one InFRE-produced course. Thereafter it is felt
that there are other Ethics courses that deliver many of the same
messages.
